I find this hard to describe but I believe I have come to a realisation that God exists and He has a plan for me. I even feel like He is talking to me (no, I don't hear actual words - just feelings) Everything just seems to suddenly make sense.
For those who have been through this as well (and I think you would know if you have!) do you have any advice on what I should do next? Is there a website that will help or books that describe this experience or help explain it better?
I have a friend who is religious and told him about this. He is taking me to his Mosque on Friday to meet an Iman, but is there anything I can do before then? It just seems too important to wait!Need some spiritual advice. Have I found God? What should I do next?
Read websites about religion. They will prepare you, and since most websites are geared towards one religion, you will get a feel as to which religion feels best for you. Now, I am a christian, but truly do not believe you need to confine yourself to one system of beliefs to find God. Sit down, get comfortable, and just think about your beliefs. Try and pray, which at first, will seem simply like a one sided conversation in your head, but may eventually develop into a true conversation with God. And quite frankly, I think you should just wait before going to any religious centers. You are just beginning your spiritual journey, and should probably take more time to reflect and find your beliefs before being encircled by one, and not knowing about others.
P.S. I'll warn you right now about some websites. Before you believe facts on some websites, double check them. Often, facts that are hateful or push you away from a certain religion are untrue.
God Bless!Need some spiritual advice. Have I found God? What should I do next?
I have kind of gone through that myself. I am currently a non-religious theist, and I have decided to research different religions to see if one makes sense to me. I would recommend the same to you - don't just look at one, look at several. There are lots of books in religion sections at your local book store.
My recommendation, read the Bible and watch some of these sermons to help study His Word!

Think over what you think is happening carefully. Write it down and write down questions you would like to ask the Iman, too.

My friend, I am not sure what path you have started out on to reach God but here is my story of how I found Him. I can tell you of an experience that took place at age 23. That was 22 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. On a cold winter night, I crashed on to my bed so high on drugs and alcohol that my heart was racing out of control. I was gripped by a terrifying fear that my life could, and very likely would come to an end that night. This night was different than all others before. As the light of the moon dimly lit my room, I could see the waves ripple across my waterbed as my heart pounded against it. For the first time I realized I was just one heartbeat away from slipping into the eternal unknown or hell if it existed.. I began having flashbacks of all the times in my life that I occasionally attended church only to please my mother but never made any commitments because I was determined to live my life my way.
I desperately recalled the few Bible scriptures I could remember hearing at the small Pentecostal church. I could not quote these verses at that time, but I could remember something about Jesus dying for me that I might have eternal life, and that if I called on his name, I would be saved. The scriptures in reference were John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him, shall not perish but have ever lasting life”, and the other was from Acts Chapter 4: Verses; 10 and 12. ”Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
They say that when the end comes, your whole life can flash before you in just a few moments and I believe I was experiencing this. What happened next was the most incredible life changing experience. I looked up toward heaven and cried out to God. I said, “God, if you are real, In the name of Jesus Christ your son save me”. These words were not simply uttered to test God. They originated deep within my heart and were delivered with a loud cry. It was at that very moment the transformation began. I could feel a tremendous power surging in and around me. It was like I was a dirty wet rag full of filth and all things unholy and God had reached down and began to squeeze it out. This all took place for several hours throughout the night. I was being transformed from the inside out into a new person. I remember thinking this during the whole experience. About daylight the next morning, it was complete. I remember standing up beside the bed and knowing that I was completely changed. The old things were passed away. I no longer had any desire to take drugs, drink, or smoke like I had done for the past 7 years.
After many years He is still as real to me today as He was then. I believe that through Jesus Christ, we can find and know God. Seek God in His name and he will reveal himself and his will for your life.
Sincerely,
A Christian friend.
The first thing you should understand is that truth is not determined by feelings. As a Christian, I do not go around doing what I think feels right, instead, I study them Bible and put into practice what it teaches. Discovering truth may bring about feelings, as I find it fun and exciting to do research on the internet and learn new things, but I don't decide what I think is true based upon feelings.
Secondly, you need to devote time to studying. I could sit here and explain to you why Christianity is true and other religions are false, but you wouldn't have the experience that you'd need to be confident in your beliefs. If you really care about finding the truth then you have to do it by conducting your own studies. This doesn't mean you can't talk to other people and hear their opinions, it just means that you always ask for proof of why they believe what they believe, don't assume they're correct.
Third, always keep notes. I have hundreds of pages of notes and thoughts that I wrote down during my studies so that I can reference them later. Unless you're some super-genius, it's going to be impossible to remember every reason why you do or don't believe a certain thing to be true. People are always going to be telling you they're right and you're wrong, so you're going to need your notes.
Fourth, study up on your logical fallacies. Many arguments that people use are going to be fallacious in nature, but will seem true if you can't recognize the fallacy. For example, in mathematics, you can't divide by zero, but if you hide the fact you divided by zero you can ';prove'; that 2 + 2 = 5, 2 = 1, or some other obviously contradictory mathematical situation. However, literary arguments won’t be so obvious and it will help greatly to review the kinds of logical fallacies there are and why they aren't logical.
Finally, set goals in the form of questions you're looking to answer, don't try to do too much at once. My very first question that I had was ';Does God Exist?';. This is a very straight forward question that I could search for answers for. I did lots of searching on the internet and talked to lots of people on forums to see if they could prove or disprove the existence of God, and finally I came upon this site: http://www.cosmicfingerprints.com/. Here it is proved 100% that God does exist, in some form, so from there I could move on to another question.
If nothing else, always ask questions. The best way to determine whether or not someone is trying to help or take advantage of you is to ask questions. People who are genuinely trying to help won't be afraid to answer questions and won't be afraid to admit that they don't have all the answers.
Repent and turn to Jesus, and let HIM show you the way.
If you are calling God, allah, then the answer to your first question is a big NO.
Max--I can relate so much to your testimony. thank you so much for sharing that with us. I am a saved (former) alcoholic and drug user. I have been washed clean by the blood of Christ. He completely healed me of it, and I no longer desire it. And when I say completely, I MEAN completely! I can say I am no longer an alcoholic. I pray for all of those who suffer with the bondage they are in, whether it be drugs, alcohol, pornography, homosexuality, etc. THERE IS AN ANSWER, PEOPLE. HIS NAME IS JESUS CHRIST, AND HE WILL RELEASE YOU FROM YOUR BONDAGE, IF YOU ACCEPT HIM INTO YOUR HEART TODAY! You can call me a crackpot, or whatever you like, but I will never deny who saved me. I pray with all of my being that you come to know Him. God bless
