My dad always said - ';It doesn't matter that you go to church every Sunday, it's what you do the rest of the week that really counts';....What's the best piece of spiritual advice your elders ever gave you?
A friend of our family told me that there is no such thing as one wrong or right path to happiness. That the best part lies in the journey, not the destination. Essentially, he paraphrased the Dalai Lama. (When you lose, don't lose the lesson.)
I was going through some tumultuous times in my teenage years and feeling like a complete screw-up. Hearing that really helped lift a dark cloud from over me.What's the best piece of spiritual advice your elders ever gave you?
My Dad said ';When you make a mistake, shake it off. Then correct it.';
(My dad was an old time professional baseball player. Mainly, everything he taught me related to baseball.)
Edit: Always expect umpires to make 5 mistakes in every game. Then when they make their first few mistakes it will not bother you, cause you didn't expect them to be perfect.
The only thing fair in life is a baseball hit between 1st base and 3rd base.
Take the first pitch (don't swing) , then swing away.
When you have two strikes on you, don't let the ump call you out, instead ';If you must strike out, go down swinging';
Most baseball games are won or lost before the game starts. ';So practice like you play, and play like you have practiced.';
A long time ago, I was taught to read the Bible for myself and don't let any preacher tell you what it said.
Back then they just carried the book under their armpit around never opening it.
That's why a lot of preachers got away with a lot of lies.
It's called, ';Hiding the truth within a lie.';
That's Biblical.
That bit of advice changed my life.
Amen.
My comparative religions teacher told us to ';think and learn and do research.'; He was christian, but never let that influence our class. He also taught world religions. Honestly if I didn't know where he went to church, I never would've guessed. He presented the material in such an objective manner and taught us all to be open minded.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
We have to study the Bible ourselves, not just take someone else's word for what the Bible say's. They can lead us down a road to destruction.
If you are worried, pray about it. If you've already prayed about it... then stop worrying! - my sister
Don't tell God how big your mountain is, tell your mountain how big your God is. - my fiance
If you do what you did then you'll get what you got! - my mom
When I was 18, my grandfather quoted Proverbs 22:7 to me: ';The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender's slave.';
He lived his life by God's Word in this sense; spending, saving,and growing money that he made...never borrowed a dime from a bank. Even though that stuck with me, I didn't listen, but I wished I had. Debt has made me a slave.
My dad always said ';wish in one hand and sh!t in the other and see which one gets filled first.';
That is the best spiritual advice I've received. It explains why god won't heal amputees, and why praying and church is a waste of time.
';Never allow room in your heart for the harboring of hatred and resentment. It'll eat away at you like a cancer';.
Wish I could actually heed that advice.
i asked my dad once when i was a kid where god was and he said everywhere.EDIT: and that's how i learned to stop looking and finding instead.
Whats the difference between good advice and spiritual advice?
What is spiritual advice?
';Just believe and he will be with you always'; and ';God will love you no matter what you do as long as you ask for forgiveness';
They never gave me any good advice because they were so in love with the idea of going to heaven they never critically inspected their faith. I am proud to no longer be a part of it.
My dad always says ';Treat everyday like your last but, also treat everyday like a new begining
My brother told me,';I'm gay'; And I knew that I couldn't be a part of any group that would hate such a beautiful individual.
My grandfather used to tell me ';Hang your condoms out to dry before you reuse them';.
I never listen to my grandfather all that much.
';Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.'; - Grampa Smalls.
i don't remember who said it - ';it does not matter if you don't go to the temple everyday as long as God is in your heart';
Believe
Always believe in god and he sees everything .
You have a great dad.
My dad used to say: ';going to church is a waste of time'; let us go and rob a bank';
The lord has told me that Obedience unto his law can give one great blessing in ones life.
Sit still and be real quiet in church so that god can find you and hear your prayers.
Don't worry about what other people think, you have to sleep with yourself at night.
To always wear a rubber
Find your own path.
A deceased friend used to say ';Brains are no good to an idiot';
If you dont want to hear the answer, dont ask the question.
On R/S this pertains to 90% of the questions.
Mom %26amp; Dad said you will go to hell for doing that so stop.
The quote from Ephesians 4:32, ';Be ye kind.';
My Mom told me when in doubt check it out. now I'm sure of my salvation.
';Serve God; serve your family.';
